The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has released statistics regarding accidents and DWI incidents during the holiday season this year. Preliminary statistics show that five people were killed in North Carolina on the highway during the New Year’s holiday. This is up from last year’s number by one fatality. The New Year’s holiday period accounts for December 31st through January 2nd. Two of the five fatalities during this period are believed to involve alcohol.
For the year of 2012 the statistics show that 846 fatal accidents occurred on North Carolina highways. These accidents are responsible for 899 deaths during the 2012 year. It is believed that 204 of these fatal accidents involved alcohol consumption.
