When you’re at a bar, you’ll have a lot of different options to chose from. As drinking trends show, more and more people like to mix it up and have some variety to their orders. However, high-ABV drinks can quickly put you over your limit. Therefore, it’s important to know what popular choices you should watch for…
High-ABV Drinks: Options To Watch For
When people hear jungle juice, they may not have many pleasant memories about it. A common staple at college parties, jungle juice is an interesting drink to say the least. A combination of fruit and usually an entire bottle of grain alcohol, it’s no surprise it ends up as one of the many high-ABV drinks.
Still, despite many people associating jungle juice with parties, it has been making appearances at bars. On the one hand, you can take some comfort in knowing that it’s being made by a professional. However, that doesn’t mean it’s got less alcohol in it. While it may certainly taste better, it’ll still have a high amount of alcohol in each drink.
Many people might be familiar with the black Russians’ counterpart, the white Russian. It’s a pretty simple drink, with just ice, vodka, coffee liqueur, and cream or milk. Still, combining the vodka and coffee liqueur can end up making the ABV of these drinks pretty high.
In contrast, the black Russian is only vodka and coffee liqueur. In order to compensate for the lack of cream, many bars might offer vanilla-flavored vodka as well. Still, this means that a black Russian is basically a double-shot in one drink. Throw in a high-ABV vodka, and you can see how this ends up as one of the high-ABV drinks.
Long Island Iced Tea
Perhaps one of the more well-known high-ABV drinks is the Long Island iced tea. The Long Island iced tea, at first glance, seems like it would not really work as a palatable drink. After all, it mixes gin, vodka, rum, tequila, and triple sec, along with soda and sour mix. Still, it manages to be a favorite drink for many.
Of course, considering how much alcohol goes into this drink, the alcohol content is quite high. Having just one of these can put you well past your limit. If you do plan on drinking one of these, make sure you know what you’re getting into!
